A new garage door is the right call when sections are rusted through, the door cannot be kept in balance, or repair costs have passed the value of what is left. In Florida the door must also meet design pressures set by the Florida Building Code: a replacement door has to be tested by an approved lab, carry a stated design pressure, and be documented by a Florida Product Approval or a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance. We choose the door by pressure rating, size and insulation. Insulated panels use polystyrene or polyurethane to cut noise and heat, aluminum panels resist rust, and struts stiffen wide doors against wind pressure, as Clopay explains. We prepare the permit application with the door's approval details, remove the old door and track, set the new door with springs and an opener sized to its weight, seal it, and test balance, auto-reverse and photo-eyes before we leave.

Wind rating is the Gulf coast's first question. Lee County adopted a wind-borne debris region and wind-speed map by ordinance, and the whole Town of Fort Myers Beach lies inside it, so glass in a garage door there must be impact-protected and a permit application carries the product approval number. Prepare the permit
The door's manufacturer and Florida Product Approval details go on the application where one is required.
Remove and install
The old door and hardware come out; new sections, tracks, springs and seal go in to the manufacturer's instructions.
Balance and test
Spring tension is set and the opener matched, then balance, photo-eyes and auto-reverse are tested before we leave.
